This morning was gray and, topside, foggy. So the photo today is not particularly artistic but if you look carefully you will see the TPD radio tower fading into the mists, which gives you an idea of just how our sky looked this morning. The photo blends into white but I did not mess with the colors while processing, it’s pretty much exactly how it appeared:
I slept in but we were out 7 am, and sadly it was warm and humid. I’m still wearing my face mask as the pollen count remains high, so like Keely I was panting for breath about halfway through — face masks build up heat and sweat, so for me the trade off is encumbered breathing for an hour in the morning or wheezing all day due to allergies. The choices Floridians make.
(I will not delve into the choices some damn fool Floridians are making other than to say they are damn fools who are damning us all.)
It also continues to be burr season. We walked up Monroe from 3rd Ave. to the Publix plaza, where I had to sit down and de-burr Keely’s paws because she started limping. They get knotted in her fur and stuck in between the pads of her toes, so it’s an ordeal but she’s learned over time to be still for it.
When I first got her she was shy of being touched too much, and was super protective of her tail and paws, which is understandable if she was (as we suspect) abused when younger. But time in a safe environment (aside from that one dog attack) and me being patient with her fussiness has paid off. She doesn’t LIKE having her feet or tail messed with but she has come to endure it stoically.
The Publix plaza already had cars idling in the parking lot, waiting for the store to open at 8 am. Nothing is out of stock, at least not when I went on Friday, so it’s more people trying to avoid crowds (I hope). Yet, I have to say, there was more traffic this morning than in the last few Sundays we’ve gone out walking. No where near the usual “busy church traffic” that I used to see before the pandemic, but…more than has been around recently. Not sure what to make of it.
(I know what to make of it, but I am in denial of the damn fools.)
It was humid enough that Keely’s fur was damp when we got home, so there was no doubt I was taking a shower ASAP. Our walk was over an hour long so as soon as Keely finished her breakfast she flopped onto my bed and went back to sleep. I made some coffee and then played with GIMP to sharpen up the the photos I took. Now the sun is out and I’m listening to the Nirvana in Fire OST and not crying.
It’s the small triumphs that make a good morning.
